Nontobeko Gloria Maphuhla was born and bred in a small town called Matatiele in the Eastern Cape. She obtained a BSc degree and postgraduate degrees at the University of Fort Hare, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in chemistry. She has worked as a tutor, laboratory assistant, and a time-on-task lecturer for first-time chemistry students. She is currently a science journalist at Kumkani FM in East London, where she has gained a foundation of knowledge and skills to be an excellent journalist, who delivers worthy and informative news to the community.

As a BSc student, she never thought that she could venture into journalism, but this experience has broadened her mind and skills. She no longer focuses only on chemistry, but is also able to channel and analyse financial and political disputes. She is an ambitious and enthusiastic person, ready to explore more of the world and use her scientific knowledge to develop a sustainable society. She loves helping young learners to discover science in their communities, and find science to be enjoyable.
