Name: Mr. Lyndon Manas

I am a qualified teacher with 31 years’ experience. This includes: Natural Sciences and Physical Sciences teacher in the classroom, Head of Science Department and member of the management team; also Subject/Curriculum Advisor at district and provincial level. As Advisor, I was responsible for Curriculum support in the Senior Phase and Further Education and Training Band; developed training documents and learning programmes; moderate School Based Assessment and managed the MST project in the West Coast Education District. The MST strategy was to ensure that there is an increase in the number of learners taking Physical Sciences and Mathematics, therefor I decided to market the subjects through the National Science Week activities.

Currently I am Provincial Coordinator of Eskom Expo for Young Scientists in the Western Cape. My responsibilities include: the expansion of Eskom Expo for Young Scientist’s activities within schools in the province; building and maintaining partnerships with government and other key stakeholders in the field of STEM education and the implementation of a provincial strategic plan and marketing of Eskom Expo activities. Using project-based-learning, it is important that we ensure learners improve critical thinking and problem solving skills – this will improve learner’s self-confidence to pursue careers in the STEM field.

I believe / live up to the words of John O’Brien: “I pray that I may care enough to love enough to share enough to let others become what they can become”
