NRF-SAASTA Features at African Nuclear Physics Conference
04 December 2025
As part of NRF-SAASTA’s commitment to developing South Africa’s Science, Engineering and Technology human capital, Liaison Officer Mr Gerald Maluleke received support to present his research at the 4th African Nuclear Physics Conference. His paper, titled “Systematic Analysis of Coulomb Barrier Heights with the Double-Folding Nucleus-Nucleus Interaction,” forms part of his Master’s studies in Nuclear Physics.
The conference, hosted by NRF-iThemba LABS from 24–28 November 2025, brought together delegates from more than 15 countries and over 50 scientific institutions. The gathering served as a key platform for discussing emerging experimental and theoretical investigations in nuclear physics across the continent.
For Mr Maluleke, the opportunity to present was professionally enriching. He noted that the platform allowed him not only to communicate the science behind his work, but also to engage with peers, expand networks and explore potential research collaborations.
He highlighted that such engagements open doors to new frontiers in nuclear physics, refining experimental approaches and shaping future investigations that may revolutionise discoveries in the field. Beyond the scientific benefits, he emphasised the broader impact of this work in strengthening community engagement and contributing to a more scientifically literate society that actively participates in Science, Technology and Innovation across all spheres of life.
