Samantha Sonwabile Magwashu was born and bred in East London. Her family consists of five members and they instilled strong morals in her. While in high school she enjoyed participating in public speaking and debates. She therefore decided that, after matric, she would pursue a career in journalism.

In 2012, she in enrolled at the Walter Sisulu University (WSU) for a National Diploma in Journalism. From day one during her first year, she was driven, ambitious, and passionate to learn more about the journalism craft. In July 2013, during her second year she was given the opportunity to read Entertainment News at a local community radio station called Link FM for a period of six months.

In July 2014, she began her in-service training at a local community newspaper called Township Times Media. In December 2015, she worked, through an internship, at the Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform (DRDAR) in the Communication Division.

In 2016, she went back to writing stories for Township Times Media and in 2018 she got the opportunity to work at a local community radio station called Kumkani FM as a Programme Manager. Currently she is a science journalist (intern) at Madibaz Radio and is enjoying all the challenges of doing something different, such as science and technology stories, as she believes that it will sharpen her craft. Her ultimate goal is that one day she may be in communication as a spokeswoman.
