SAPRS SURVEY RESULTS NRF facilities public lecture
South African Public Relationship with Science (SAPRS) SURVEY RESULTS
A National Research Foundation (NRF) facilities public lecture
SPEAKER: DR VIJAY REDDY
You are cordially invited to a special public lecture on the key findings of the South African Public Relationship with Science (SAPRS) survey results.
The results of the SAPRS 2022 survey are the culmination of more than four years of work, involving conceptualising the study, developing the instruments, collecting and analysing the data and writing the report. The survey was a collaboration between the Department of Science Technology and Innovation (DSTI) and the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC). The DSTI is the custodian of Science Engagement and in this regard a first-ever national survey, SAPRS was conducted in 2022 by the HSRC. The results have been captured in a report which was launched by the Minister of Science Technology and Innovation during Science Forum South Africa (SFSA) in 2024.
The results of the SAPRS survey are critically important to the mandate of the NRF, such as to support and promote science engagement. The survey provides a robust baseline measure of the South African public’s knowledge, attitudes, and engagement with science and technology.
For NRF National Facilities, which manage some of the country’s most significant research infrastructure, understanding these results is vital to shape our science engagement. The data will help NRF facilities to tailor outreach efforts, foster greater public trust, and ultimately support the NRF’s objectives.
