1 – 7 August 2021

National Science Week (NSW) is an annual event aiming to exhibit and communicate awareness in science. It is an initiative of the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), a countrywide celebration of science involving various stakeholders and role players conducting science-based activities during the week.

The NSW 2021 will be conducted through information and communications technologies (ICT). Investigation conducted has revealed interesting association of South Africans with various ICTs, which if adequately exploited would exponentially expand the reach of the science engagement campaign. It has become a tradition that the NSW takes place during the first week of August. Sustaining this practice, the NSW 2021 will take place from 1 – 7 August 2021.

NATIONAL SCHOOLS DEBATES COMPETITION – PROVINCIAL WORKSHOPS

NRF-SAASTA presents an opportunity and invites participation for learners to debate high-level scientific topics on an online platform. To accommodate restrictions related to distance and physical interaction, the National Schools Science Debate competition 2021 cycle will be implemented through virtual submissions and an online platform.

Dr Nomusa Dlamini

Nomusa Dlamini is a Principal Research Scientist, specialising in food sciences and technology. She is currently the Acting Manager for the Food Safety Programme at CSIR. She has a PhD in Food Science and Technology, and also holds an MSc in Food Sciences. Dr Dlamini has over 20 years’ combined experience in research and academia. She has worked on collaborative projects with local and international partners, authored and co-authored several peer-reviewed publications and presented at conferences and meetings.
