SAASTA wins 2nd place for best “wow” show at Sasol Techno X

SAASTA put on the second best show at this year’s Sasol Techno X that was held at the Boiketlong Sport Centre in Sasolburg.

The week-long event captivated the imaginations of learners in grades 7 to 12 with diverse applications of mathematics, science and technology.

Over 24 400 visitors from across the country attended the careers exhibition

According to the Executive Mayor of Metsimaholo, Cllr Brutus Mahlaku, the careers exhibition generated a desire to pursue mathematics, science and technology among learners. In addition, Mahlaku emphasised that the annual careers exhibition helped to stimulate and drive an eagerness for learners to do better at school.

Discovering exciting career opportunities

Sasol Techno X provides a dynamic and interactive way for learners to discover career opportunities in the fields of science, engineering and technology. For that one week, the careers exhibition saw over 24 400 visitors from across the country.

Sizwe Khoza, Project Officer at SAASTA said, “The young learners attending this year’s exhibition gave us hope that the future of our country’s engineering is in safe hands. It is also really encouraging to see young learners take an interest in new sciences such as nanotechnology.”

SAASTA continues to play an important role in ensuring that learners who attend science careers exhibitions such as Sasol Techno X always leave inspired and encouraged to take on careers in science, engineering and technology. This is of particular importance in a country like South Africa where we have one engineer for every 3 100 people, compared to a country like Germany with one engineer for every 200 people, according to the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
