    The National Science Olympiad is one of the flagship programmes of the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA). Now in its 54th year, the initiative offers learners in grades 10 to 12 from Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries, which include South Africa, Lesotho, Zimbabwe and Namibia, an opportunity to compete in science.

    Participants from 27 countries around the world came together in Cheltenham in the UK for the 2018 FameLab International Competition. The science competition formed part of the Cheltenham Science Festival, which took place between 4 and 8 June 2018.

    Eskom Expo for Young Scientists entered five projects in the 2018 Beijing Youth Science Creation Competition (BYSCC) in China through the generous support of South African Agency for Science and Technology (SAASTA), who took care of the learners’ travel expenses, including flights, meals, accommodation and entrance fees.
