Pakistan is facing serious social, political, military and economic issues at the domestic and global level. In a country which has such limited avenues for public activities, the heavens bind our society together and inculcate a sense of unity, belonging and integration.
We have received many accolades for our Starpeace events which have been taking place since the beginning of International Year of Astronomy 2009. These signature events have helped tremendously in getting the message out there that the Universe is yours to discover! People of all ages are equally interested and many people thanked us for letting them see Saturn and Jupiter for the first time in their lives. Working with children, especially underprivileged ones, is very rewarding and fulfilling.
IYA 2009 has been an enjoyable roller coaster ride! It is indeed a rewarding experience to share the heavens with the public and I am grateful to the organizers of the IYA 2009 for providing the context to move forward and take Pakistan to stellar heights.
