It takes time and effort to make a picture look good

You need good graphics to go with a press release. The Hubble pictures are the best example and it is deceptive how much time and effort go into making the picture look good. Not fabricating it. Nothing is "photoshopped" away for instance but to make sure that the 'stretch' of the image is such that the bright and faint structures in an object stand out pretty. The right choice of colours (colours are assigned, half the images from Hubble are outside what the human eye can see).
