The theme for Primary Science Day 2006 to 2008 is "Electricity". Covering a range of aspects, the theme includes background information on electricity, an electricity kit, building of simple circuits, electrical safety and how to save electricity.
An educator manual and an activity booklet for learners have been developed and accompany the kits.
The rationale behind the selection of the aforementioned theme is:
• It is curriculum based and in line with the Revised National Curriculum Statement and the TIMMS 2003 reports which indicate that there is appositive correlation between exposing learners to curriculum based activities and academic performance in Mathematics and Science.
• It cuts across the General Education and Training (GET) and Further Education and Training Bands.
•
Performance in grade 12 examinations on the electricity section is poor, and thus contributes to overall poor performance in Physical Science.
• It creates great opportunities for hands-on-activities, for projects and is applicable to daily life experience.
