- Black Engineers and Scientists Trust, in partnership with North West University (Mafikeng) Campus
Provincial launch: Speeches by different service providers, representatives from North West University, Department of Education, SAASTA/DST to promotes and market National Science Week activities in the province. Role Modeling: Interactive talks by university students, scientists, technologists and engineers, sharing the learning and working experience with learners, to encourage them to follow careers in SET and also expose them to the important role SET plays in our daily lives. Presentations will cover different SET fields and there will be interesting lecturer demonstrations. Excursions: Learners will be exposed to manufacturing processes and career opportunities in mining industry, fertilizers and aviation industries. GET and FET educators Workshop: Trigonometry, space science and astronomy, skills required for successful teaching of Mathematics and Science at FET and GET bands. Educators to be familiarised with the National Curriculum Statements topics and how they are assessed. Learners and Educators Workshop: Shape and measurement (integration of mathematics, science and economic and management sciences). Some topics are related to how school trigonometry is related to real life situations. There will be Science, Mathematics, Technology, Astronomy and Space Science Quiz for learners. Exhibition Stalls: Career opportunities and related information (e.g. bursaries, learnerships, SET brochures etc.) by various companies and institutions. Prizes and awards for learners based on the SET quiz.
