| About NSW |
National Science Week (NSW) is an initiative of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) which aims to excite our youth with science at an early age and to encourage them to develop an interest in studying mathematics and science subjects. Whilst placing emphasis on our youth, awareness is also created amongst those sectors of society bearing an influence on the subject and career choices of learners.
Key objectives
- to create awareness of the important role that science play in people's daily lives;
- to encourage our youth to consider studying and improving their performance in mathematics and science; and
- to attract more of our youth into science, engineering and technology (SET) careers.
Theme
National Science Week is being celebrated under the theme "Tomorrow’s Science & Technology are in our Youth’s Hands".
Key Thrusts
Two thrusts have been identified for National Science Week 2006 to 2009:
- Scientific areas where provinces have knowledge and geographical advantage, and
- Indigenous knowledge
