Talking Science Communication across African Borders

Participants from across Sub-Saharan Africa discussed the intricacies of science communication in Pretoria today. SAASTA’s Science Communication Division joined the Nuffic Orange Knowledge Exchange Series on 5 September 2019 at the Embassy of the kingdom of the Netherlands in Pretoria to run a science communication masterclass. The theme of this regional event was “The nexus between Food Security, Water and Energy: Challenges and Opportunities” and aimed to develop capacity, foster networking and stimulate collaborations.

Participants came from countries across Africa, including South Africa, Mozambique, and Tanzania. They engaged in discussions about the importance of science communication and engagement, took part in activities to craft their messages and were given tools and tips on how to plan, prepare and practice their communication skills. The Orange Knowledge programme is a global development programme funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign affairs, aiming to contribute to a society’s sustainable and inclusive development.
