National Schools Debate national tournament - 27 to 30 September 2008
SAASTA will from 27 to 30 September host the national tournament of the schools debate competition in conjunction with the South African School Debating Board. The theme for the national tournament will be based on activities of the International Year of Plant Earth (IYPE) as resolutions.

Biotechnology in Medical Research Media Round Table
The Public Understanding of Biotechnology programme (PUB) is hosting a Media Round Table (MRT) discussing Biotechnology in Medical Research on Wednesday, 15 October 2008. This MRT looks at the use of biotechnology applications in addressing diseases that predominate in developing countries, such as tuberculosis (TB), HIV/AIDS and various cancers and genetic diseases.

Astronomy Quiz
The South Africa Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA) will on Friday, 24 October 2008 host the national finals of the Astronomy Quiz as SAASTA’s Johannesburg Observatory. The quiz aims to improve teaching and learning in primary school of basic astronomy contributing to the improvement of awareness, interest, understanding, and insight into astronomy.
