Speak from your heart

Speak in terms your audience will understand

Alexei Pace
Vice-President, The Astronomical Society of Malta, Republic of Malta

I find that the best way of communicating science, in particular astronomy is to try and communicate in terms that your audience can comprehend. For example when we mention that the Milky Way contains 200 billion stars, I find it best to divide that amount by your country's population and say that 200 billion would be the amount which you could gather if every person could give you X amount of money.

Scale models also help a lot in showing relative distances between, say, the planets; or between the relative sizes and distances between the Earth and the Moon.
