The finals of the first South African Astronomy Quiz were held at HartRAO in 2006. Schools from across the country participated in regional quizzes and the winners in each region participated in the finals.

November 2007 - Astronomy Month will be held in October 2008. The closing date for proposal submissions is 15 April 2008.

Second National Astronomy Quiz finals
October 2007 - Aimed at Grade 7 learners, "AstroQuiz 2007" is part of SAASTA's contribution to Astronomy Month. The winning team from each centre, competed at HartRAO on 26 October 2007 in the finals of this exciting competition.

Events 2007
September 2007 - The calendar of events for Astronomy Month 2007 included: educator workshops, student workshops, stargazing shows, open days at our leading observatories - including a two-day, one-night trip to SALT, career workshops, career booklets and cartoon strips on national television.

SAASTA launches AstroNet discussion forum
March 2007 - AstroNet is an email-based discussion list for people interested in Astronomy Communication. AstroNet subscription page and sign up. It takes just two minutes.

Call for Proposals 2007
January 2007 - For the fourth year running, the South African Department of Science and Technology (DST) has declared four thematic months for 2007, namely Antarctica Month (June), Marine Biosciences Month (August), African Origins Month (September) and Astronomy Month (October). The closing date for proposals for Astronomy Month was 14 March 2007.

First National Astronomy Quiz finals
October 2006 - Aimed at Grade 7 learners, "AstroQuiz 2006" was part of SAASTA's contribution to Astronomy Month. The winning team from each centre, arrived at HartRAO on 27 October for the finals. They were: Arethabeng from Soshanguve, Eunice from Bloemfontein, Pinelands North from Cape Town, Randfontein from western Gauteng and Williston from the Northern Cape.

Call for proposals: Science Platform Months 2006
March 2006 - The South African Department of Science and Technology (DST) has declared a series of four thematic months for 2006, namely Antarctica (June), Marine Biosciences (August), African Origins (September) and Astronomy (October). SAASTA has been mandated to implement the four DST thematic months in 2006. DST and SAASTA are inviting the submission of innovative and creative proposals for organizing and implementing projects during 2006, which will contribute towards raising public awareness around the four themes, and specifically, on research done in this area and profiling of potential careers.
