• South African National Antarctic Programme (SANAP)
  The mission of the South African National Antarctic Programme (SANAP) is to increase understanding of the natural environment and life in the Antarctic and Southern Ocean through appropriate science and technology.
  
  
• International Polar Year
  The International Polar Year is a large scientific programme focused on the Arctic and the Antarctic from March 2007 to March 2009. Due to our involvement in Antarctica, South Africans are active participants in IPY.
