Where is it?
The Natal Museum is at 237 Loop Street, Pietermaritzburg. It is open Monday to Friday (09:00 to 16:30), Saturdays (10:00 to 16:00) and Sundays (11:00 to 15:00). It is closed on 1 January, 25 & 26 December and Good Friday. You can call the Natal Museum at (033) 345-1404.
What is on display?
The Natal Museum is the largest national museum in KwaZulu- Natal and houses several collections relevant to African Origins. The archaeological collection includes items from the Early, Middle and Late Stone Age. The Late Stone Age collection also includes painted San art from Bamboo Mountain, The Meads and other Drakensberg rock art sites.
The Palaeontology collection consists of over 2 500 specimens, including a comprehensive collection of Permian fossil invertebrates. In addition to the many mollusca, vertebrate and invertebrate fossils in the collection, there are also a number of fossil plants.
