Where is it?

You will find MuseuMAfricA at 121 Bree Street, within the Newtown Cultural Precint of Johannesburg. Located at the Newtown Cultural Precinct, converted modern building used to be the city's fruit and vegetable market. It is well worth a visit, and described by some as a trip to the city's soul. The Museum is open from 09:00 - 17:00, Tuesday to Sunday. It is closed on Mondays.

What is on display?

MuseuMAfricA carries a variety of exhibits, most of which pertain to the rich history of Africa, including its ancient cultures. Of special interest to African Origins are displays that capture fossil evidence of early humans and Stone Age and Iron Age communities that lived in the Johannesburg area. It also houses the Museum of South African Rock Art, which offers another intriguing glimpse into one of South Africa's oldest cultures.
