A B O U T    A F R I C A N    O R I G I N S    M O N T H

The Department of Science and Technology (DST) has declared September African Origins Month. This is one in a series of months dedicated to specific science platforms.

African Origins Month will focus on South Africa’s remarkable palaeontological and archaeological heritage.

The objectives of the campaign are to:

• Highlight current and past research done in this area;
• Increase public engagement about African Origins through media and displays;
• Encourage visits to centres that illustrate African origins, e.g. fossil parks or World Heritage Sites, Museums and Institutions; and
• Create interest among learners.
